Capt. WILLIAM F. DOWNEY, Jr.

Capt. William F. Downey, Jr. age 57, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2004 at his home.

Born in Cleveland, OH, on February 22, 1947, Capt. Downey was a 1964 graduate of Salesianum High School and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967-1970 during the Vietnam War.

He was a lifelong computer enthusiast and owned and operated his own Internet company for many years. In his leisure time, Capt. Downey enjoyed sports of all kinds, particularly golf.
He was a member of the Delaware Veterans Post #1 and the DAV in Wilmington.
He is survived by his daughter, Allison E. Downey and her fiance, William S. Rogers; and granddaughter, Hannah Rogers, all of Milton, DE; mother, Elaine K. Downey of Wilmington, DE; 4 brothers, Brian Downey and his wife, Joy, of Newark, DE, Blair Downey of Newark, DE, Bobby Downey and his wife, Susan, of San Antonio, TX and Michael Downey and his wife, Denise, of Wilmington, DE; 3 sisters, Kathy LaFashia of Wilmington, DE, Karen Stoppel of New Castle, DE and Robin Satterly and her husband, Jeff, of Wilmington, DE; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Downey, Sr.

Funeral services were held at 1 pm, Thursday, March 11, 2004, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

Interment with military honors followed in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. An after services gathering was held at the Delaware Veterans Post Home on Veterans Drive, Wilmington, DE.
