MICHAEL J. SMITH

Of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at home with his loving wife at his side at the age of 60.

Michael was born and raised in Hazelton, PA, the son of the late John E. and Nancy Smith, moving to Wilmington at the age of 18, attending the University of Delaware where he studied history and making Wilmington his home for over 40 years. Michael served his country proudly as a member of the US Navy, serving 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam. He was a skilled trade carpenter who was an avid "war games" player, he loved to read especially history, and a member of Del-Vets, Wilmington.

Michael will be sadly missed by his beloved wife and constant companion of 37 years, Nancy W. Smith; his brother, John Smith, Jr. and his wife Maria. Michael was predeceased by his brother Robert Smith. Family and friends may visit with Nancy on Thursday, February 28, from 9-9:45 am, at BEESON FUNERAL HOME OF WILMINGTON, 412 Philadelphia Pike, 764-2900. Michael's funeral service will be at 9:45 am, with interment immediately following at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Flowers will be appreciated or a memorial donation may be made to Del-Vets, 2535 Veterans Drive, Wilmington, DE 19810. served as an elected officer of their State Board of Directors and was a lifetime member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church.
