A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve--
is someone who, at one point in his or her life,
wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America",
for an amount of "up to and including their life".
 That is Honor,
and it seems there are way too many people in this country...
who no longer understand that simple fact.

Delaware Operation Support Our Troops

Again this year many of us are involved in Operation Support Our Troops. Our brave service people serving in Iraq and Afghanistan need our support.  We already have 1000 names and if the past is any indicator we will get more as it gets closer to our mailing deadline of November 30th. We anticipate over 4000 stockings will be sent this year. You may be wondering how you can help. It is really very simple. Located at the Post is a box and flyers.

You need not fill a 2 gallon bag if you don't have one just bring in your donations or you can drop them off at the Headquarters in Branmar Plaza.  We are looking for the following items:

  • Individual Food Items

  • White SocksUsed or New CDs and DVDs

  • Personal Hygiene Items (small sizes)

  • Lip Balm Foot Powder

  • Disposable Cameras are just some of the things.

  • New and used paperback books

It you don't want to shop a donation would be greatly appreciated. Our shipping costs are up 39% over last year. A check can be made to Operation Support Our Troops and can be brought to our headquarters or put in the box at the post. We would like to thank the Del Vets again for their support in the past and also say a great big thanks in advance. Anyone with any questions can call or at 475-1991 or email me at Delawarerealtor@aol.com.

Elsmere Veterans Hospital
Volunteer Services is looking for individuals to ADOPT-A-VETERAN. The VA nursing home care unit has several individuals that could use a special visitor. After many decades of marriage, spouses have passed away and immediate family live a distance away. These individuals could use someone interested in being matched with them for our ADOPT-A-VETERAN Project.

VA Volunteer Services is also looking for volunteers interested in driving the parking lot shuttle van. Hours needed: 8:30AM to 3:00PM.

Contact: Karen Cavanaugh at the Volunteer Services office.
Monday thru Friday 7:00AM - 2:30 PM. Call 302-994-2511 ext. 4061.

A Thought to live with:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

-- Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, Sergeant, USMC

Operation AC (http://www.operationac.com) is the nation's leader in delivering air conditioners, heaters, boots, shaving kits, socks & gloves into the hands of deployed troops.
Many American's wanting to provide assistance and comfort to our deployed troops may in fact find it almost impossible to do so.

How it works

We have tightened security so everyone must have a login id and password. See instruction pages at left for Sponsors FAQ and for Servicemembers FAQ for details. As an overview, US Service Members sign up with us, they put the items they would like to have from the Virtual CareBox in a wishlist. When a sponsor signs up, they can choose their Service Member by Branch of Service, Home State, Sex, or Area of deployment. More
